I watched the first episode of series 2 of "Patience" last night on Channel 4, my Virgin 360 box had recorded the first two episodes.. She's 23 years old, introverted, autistic, who works in the police records office, but in the past has been invaluable in helping to solve crimes for her previous female boss who has recently moved to another area. All that must have been in series 1 which I've not seen. She now has a new boss who doesn't like her and thinks she's only good for fetching cups of coffee. But she's instrumental (as you would expect) in the solving of the murder in the first episode. I guess I'd put it on the same level of "Heartbeat," but I enjoyed it as it wasn't over violent as are many police dramas these days. I suppose#, as a programe, more of a "bit of fluff," a totally unrealistic situation in a police station. But no matter. As to be expected, there's the possibility of a side plot of a budding romance involving Patience with a young male forensic laboratory worker.
I've just noticed a Barclaycard advert on TV. The on-screen slogan is:- MAKE MONEY WORK FOR YOU! At the bottom of the screen is a strap-line in small thin lettering which says that their interest rate is 24%. So it's more of a case of your money working for them! How daft do they think are the public?
Tonight we watch the final episode of 'The Night Manager" Season one. Even though it is ten years old, it was like a new production. It was on the free with public library card account, Kanopy. The military "fireworks" display in the desert is pretty incredible. Probably too violent for my taste but I didn't have any nightmares. An almost James Bond feel except more bad government behavior. Anxious to start Season Two.
I watched the weekly episode of "Ship Happens," they're up to episode number 262. It's a down to every "nut and bolt" renovation, so not everyone's cup of tea. It's only been up five hours and has already had more than 38,000 hits They were dismantling the hydraulic gear of the twin rudders, so they can replace the support framework. Pretty heavy engineering build. This is because the 72ft wooden boat was one of many, originally built for the Royal Navy, for anti-submarine work, with large rudders so that it could be turned quickly. It's been through several owners since then and was converted to a pleasure craft. I finished binge-watching series 2 of "Patience." Can't be too bad, if I stayed with it. I just wondered if she wore that ever present back-pack in bed too.
True, but all their other channels have a fair number of repeats too, particularly BBC2. I just wish my telly magazine would indicate what are repeats, other than the five main channels.
Maybe you should get a different telly magazine, we have the radio times, it has all of the terrestrial channels, some streaming, Freeview and pay channels.
The Radio Times is no longer owned by the BBC. So it's not their fault. Given that there's at least two TV magazines for under a pound, the price of the radio times has risen to a ridiculous amount. I think it's nearly £4 now. I know you can buy it as a subscription and have it delivered. But it's still expensive. I don't read any articles in telly mags and I stopped buying a newspaper nearly twenty years ago. I can "get my biased news reports" on-line from several sources.
Yes i know that it's expensive, I'm thinking of not buying anything anymore we don't watch much of anything anymore.
All the programmes for every channel on Freeview are on my TV and my Humax tuner/recorders and for every channel on our Virgin 360 boxes, so really I don't need a telly mag. Sometimes I think we do things from habit. That's why I stopped buying the paper.
@Doghouse Riley , you can view the RT online and ( as I could...but don't) borrow it from your Library if you have an online account. I don't buy any magazines now just get them from my Library.
I enjoyed the second series of Patience, so I've started to watch the first series. The actress who plays the programme's first series Police D.I. is replaced in the second series. That's because Laura Fraser was contracted to appear in a new series called "Mint," both productions were scheduled to start recording at the same time.
We don't have a recorder anymore, if i do watch anything it's always on the BBC, so we could catch up with iPlayer, of course can get the programmes off the TV.
We can do that too. We can get a lot of films on our Virgin 360 boxes, but many films are removed after a while. I've two Humax tuner/recorders. I bought the second one when the first had a hard drive crash a few years ago and I lost all my recordings, but I had the old one fitted with a new hard drive and it was usable again. As is often the case, the old one is better than the new one, which puts everything in the same file. With the old one you can have as many categories as you like, which you arrange in alphabetical order, or recording date etc., You can also re-name individual files, as often a film can be recorded in two parts so, for those they have "1" or "2" added to the title. I have, "Classics." "Favourites," "Film Noir," "Musicals," "Documentaries," "Music" etc., and complete TV series, like "Jesse Stone." I've got over 200 recordings on it, mostly films and I've only used up 50% of its capacity. As well as new films I like, I've been re-recording the stuff I liked and lost for about 5 years now, (shows you how often films are repeated). There's still some film noir I'm missing that I lost, that at one time I had on VHS. But the recorders can only record from FreeView channels. So I've always a library of films and dramas I can re-watch if at any time I can find nothing worthwhile on TV. Some of the films I watch at least once a year or so, others I've not watched yet, which I may have seen in a cinema decades ago. But I know they will be available if I decide to watch them again.
