Caity(my daughter) went to the woods this morning and happened upon a wet butterfly crawling around on the ground. So she let it walk up on her hand and let crawl onto a burdock plant, then came to tell me about it, so we got a few pics for you to see.

I went back out 45 min later and here it is dry and ready to face the wild.

They are beautiful. the blue is iridescent. very pretty in the sunshine.
I love the stew. Here I posted it because it was so new you could see the floppiness of its wings before they hardened up, not because I thought others had never seen one before. Funny how, what we have locally, we think others in the same latitude have them, also.
    Glad you enjoyed seeing it.

Opening up the stew each morning is like a new chapter in a never-ending book. Flower pictures, animals, insects, happenings, it's a wonder I get anything done. :) Quite often it is the little things that I find most fascinating, things that others say in passing. Being able to converse with people and friends from around the country and around the world is an enriching experience.

What an awesome thing to eye witness. I've seen caterpillars. I've seen butterflies. But never have I seen them "in-between".
Tell your daughter "well done" on spotting it!

Very interesting... I've never seen a brand new butterfly like that.... That was quick thinking on Caity's part to give the butterfly a safe spot without touching him.... and so nice of her to tell you so we could all see it!

I added a butterfly garden to my album, It has all the pictures from this morning in it if you want to see a few more. they aren't really any different, just more of them. It was an awesome event to witness. I am so glad Caity caught this moment in time.

I've seen butterflies just like yours before ... but only in others' photographs or on the television. I have never seen one that has just emerged from its cocoon. What a wonderful find your daughter made!! Well done Caity and well done you for the great pictures of it. :-D

Great capture and photos of the pipevine. I have been adding a lot of plants that are attractive to butterflies.
