I've been ignoring my front flower bed for a while now. Today I decided to clean the mess up. So far I've worked for four hours and filled 2 wheelbarrows full and still have a ways to go. As you can see, the salvias definitely got ahead of me and I'm shuffling things around. Drastically trimmed back the pink potentilla bushes, removed an number of self-seeded salvias and still have more to thin out. The last picture shows how the salvia is covering up my Gnome stump and the Gnomes. I've got some flag stone so I'm going to make a 'patio' for the gnomes. By keeping the salvia at the back and outside edges I'll have the room for more shorter long bloomers and I want to add some Kona chinensis dianthus to the front edge. I worked for about 4 hours today before it got too hot and will 'hit' it again tomorrow. Then it is on the narrow bed against the front of the house.
I feel for ya 2ofus. If you were to see my front bed, you would throw down your gloves, and walk away.
I spent a few hours in my back garden - about 4 weeks ago! Filled 3 wheelbarrows with just deadheads and a few things I cut back. Have been busy since and no time for the garden so I could probably fill a few wheelbarrows again!
My hope is to remove eight yarrows from the front bed today. My poor blanket flowers can't even be seen anymore.The weather has been so cool they should have no problems being moved to their new home. Then I should be able to get in the rest of the bed for some major weeding.
Lots of hard work there. I too have been slowly cleaning out beds and patio areas. Your beds are looking lovely.
I guess I was over-optimistic. I thought I'd be done with the front bed yesterday..NOT! I'll hit it again today and should (hope) be done with it.
I am impressed 2. You've made a big imptovement already! ALL my flowers beds are overgrown. I am beginning to re-think them, considering what plants would require less maintenance.
My flower beds could use a lot of work but we are too busy getting ready to move . Our lake property was brought out of the flood zone and we are quite high next to our neighbor. We couldn't build unless we did it so high we are. We have been busy trying to landscape the sides of the property. One side we planted plants and if it doesn't work we will do stone. ON the the other side we are doing stone and tomorrow we will pick up some sod to help with the erosion at the top when it rains.
we are going to rebuild our house... I think I have to say goodbye to my beautiful flowers beds.... they gonna destroy it how long will it take for me to make a new flowers bed? any ideas?!
Chapeau, 2OF. You have done some remarkable work there and have some good plans for your bed. I hope that you'll post more piccies later. That bed looks terrific.
