All I've done is watering today. It's bone dry, burnt grass and we aren't expected to have a drop of rain for another week. That'll make 4 weeks with no rain and...we are also having a heat wave with temps in the low to mid 90's. :(

Sorry to hear that @Anniekay , we went a couple of months without rain a few months back now and we had...still have a hosepipe ban. Our garden really suffered ,we are on land that was once part of a clay quarry making house bricks . It may have closed many, many years ago but unfortunately there is still plenty of clay remaining !!! We have lost a fair few plants/ shrubs this year due to the heatwave and drought. You just feel helpless with no control and it's heart breaking to watch your garden shrivel up before your eyes.:(

I have been busy here, but things are also bone dry. We did have a wee bit of rain this past weekend, and it is greatly appreciated. It was maybe 1/2 inch or so, not near enough to bust the drought. I water my veggie garden and some of my containers. Even though I am on my own well, I do not care to kill the pump as they are very costly. I am trying to save what I can save.

There is a new tropical storm in the mid-Atlantic they are calling Gabrielle. It just formed overnight, but appears to be headed for the islands and Florida so far. There is another storm trying to form right behind it off the coast of Africa. This time of year it takes a tropical storm/low pressure/hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico to get rain inland to southern Missouri and the midwestern states.

I hope we can all get rain without the destruction of hurricanes.

A friend shared some pears from her pear tree yesterday which is good because the critters got all the pears off of my tree this summer. :(

I do have a few medium pumpkins ripening and an occasional tomato or pepper.

Here you go @Sjoerd ....the tatty blighter. It's been drastically cut back from the pathway but when in full growth and bloom mode it's humming with Bees and nobody can use the path at all. So it has to go or get chopped in half ....but even that won't really change its inevitable outcome as it grows so rapidly. IMG_20250919_094251.jpg

A lot of trimming and reshaping of shrubs ( not too good at this but needs must as my darling hubs hasn't been too good these last few weeks :(). Also been sweeping all 3 patios and pathways to clear the acorns before someone breaks their neck!!! It's the scrapping out of the crevices between the slabs and bricks that is a real back breaker...oh now I wish I could kneel again but I would happily settle for a bit more bend in my knee......it will come in time I have no doubt:fingerscrossed:

Just having a break now as I've been out there since 9, will have salad lunch and head back out. Too nice a day to miss.

I hope your Optician isn't too far away @Logan and that you get a chance to enjoy the lovely afternoon in your garden.:like:

I took the shears to this untidy specimen ( daren't attempt using the electric cutters..that really is tempting fate) and gave it a light tidy up.

    Before..
    IMG_20250919_135126.jpg

After...the spikey bits on top are the other side of the gate ( see it's curved top) and not bits that I've missed. IMG_20250919_150407.jpg

Lining up my next customer.... ( please excuse the laundry)

    IMG_20250919_150444.jpg

Might do that later or tomorrow as we have a friend coming over soon.

Just finished trimming up that last untidy customer of the day but when I had done it his neighbour next door looked so scruffy too so that had a chop .

@Orieti all your shrub trimming looks very professional. And I might add your collection of shrubs is to die for. :sete_013:‘and you had time to do laundry
    And hang out.. wow…

My lavender do the same thing as yours pictured. I need to tame it down too. It can get a bit wild looking. But ya can’t beat the lovely smell and grey leaf color.

Been doing the same with shrubs around here. And boy do all the clippings add up fast when fresh. What do you do with all yours?

I put mine out on the pasture roll out flat . Let them all dry out. Next month I run my mulcher mower over them and wallah all gone and fertilize the grass in the pasture. The larger tree limbs and or shrub limbs like Rhody’s I bring out to the fence along the perimeter of the property and add to a deer deterrent fence. Keeps the deer at bay.

Oh Goodie what’s next.. the fall leaf drop… covers the entire landscape. Phew…makes me feel over whelmed just thinking about it…
