Been hassling with taking down about a 50’ Douglas fir tree that died recently by the road. Just using the battery op chain saw. Trimming off the lower branches. It’s a challenge it will definitely be tricky. I will just take my time and be mindful of every step along the way.

Mowed the front and back lawns and pastures. The recent warm temps & sunny afternoons starts up the grass and weeds to take over quickly.

Sprinkled the black top driveway with my fancy new bleach spreader. Easy spreader to make. First empty out a cup or 2 from the bleach from the container. Then drilled a few holes in the bottom and part of one side of a gallon bleach container, hooked the container handle up to a long handled hoe and just drag the bleach bottle across the driveway to spread out the bleach. Then sprinkle with the hose and continued to spread it out using the leaf blower. The bleach used was the non-splash type it’s very thick like glue and just wore my rain pants just in case any bleach is spilled too close. Nice little technique really worked well. I also used my garden tractor to run down the driveway with the leaf blower to spread the bleach down to the road. The commercial products made for moss removal doesn’t work well on black top driveways. Over the years the easiest, most efficient way for me to clean off moss from the drive and roof is simply using bleach/water mix. It doesn’t hurt the plants near by .

You've been busy Pacnorwest, how are you going to get to the higher branches?

Dug up a dying lavender that's about 25 years old.
1000002511.jpg This is the space that it took.
1000002512.jpg Put another in it's place, it cost £13.49 from the local garden centre and it was in a 2ltr pot, put some compost in and some root grow. watered it in. I've got some space for some tulips this autumn.

Didn't get home until 4pm but did remember to take the seedlings out into the greenhouse before leaving this morning . I left the door open and the window and hooked up some light shading to protect from the midday sun.

Sowed 3 more trays of seeds after getting home.:like:

Good question and thanks for asking. To reach the top branches on a 50ish foot tree… That’s when I cut the entire tree down makes it a simple job to just remove the top branches. Also this tree grew on its own … can ya believe it a tree I didn’t plant. The tree is not near any hazards . So this is where the compact tractor comes in handy to move cut sections of the tree. Just chain the sections to the bucket and off we go… This isn’t my first rodeo. This is Oregon where the nations largest forests of trees grow and cover the entire western part of the state. Really history comes to mind here to remind me that I really live in an old growth forest.
Or there’s always the option to hire a tree guy.
Love your lavender plants , seedling, bulb planters . you’re always such a fun interesting gardener to watch and hear of all your garden news. Have a great day.

I weeded and fertilized, weeded and fertilized until I was too pooped to pop !! I got about a 60' long and 4 and 1/2' wide section done. I thought I lost my Gerber daisies but they are starting to come back up !! It got too hot in the sun so I moved to the shady garden where a cedar tree kept me in shade. It got up to 81 so, I just couldn't stay in sun by noon time.

You got Gerber Daisies in planted out your garden. :smt023 they are a beautiful flower . They are annuals in my zone. I’m jealous you have them in your garden.

Annie sounds like you pulled a huge section of weeds 60’ is a lot of area. They are poppin up here to like no tomorrow . I take the easy way out and spray the areas. I use a pet friendly weed treatment that works really well in the dogs area. And pasture recommended treatments from the university that was actually made and produced by the OHU. Most other areas have ground cover of different types.
So put your feet up, pat yourself on your back cause that’s a job well done… :sete_005::setf_016::smt038

Thanks @Pacnorwest . Last year with the snow, the Gerber daisies didn't even take a rest. This year the cold made them die back but they came back off the roots because the ground never freezes here.

I have to get weed killer for my new drive. Grass is growing up through it already !!

Didn't have time to do much today, as it was a laundry and shopping day.

But I got a bit done.

I tidied up this Amber clematis, carefully removed a few dead bits and re-trained it. I also removed a lot of surplus wire “ties.” This plant does very well every year, filling the whole of this fence and looking for more space. It's in competition with a jasmine that is in the same bed, next to the door and grows up that end of the fence.

I planted out most of the new clematis. I've still one left.

The impatiens plug plants I bought on eBay were a disappointment, all but one have died.

I sent this photo of them in two containers in the shed,to the supplier and they've refunded my money.

I've never had a problem with eBay, when I've been disappointed by a product from a reputable supplier.

I got the back lawn mowed. This is the best it's looked in early March for a couple of years. Gave it another dose of iron sulphate where it was needed.

I'll cut the front lawn tomorrow.

I remembered to put more food out for the hedgehog.

I'm pleased that my golf trolley battery got successfully recharged over-night, which is what it's supposed to do. I tried it out in the trolley, its screen said it had a full charge and when I turned it on, it was working correctly. A bit of a relief as a replacement would be £265. Golf is expensive enough, as it is!

These trolleys use a 30volt battery, the older ones like I used to have, use a very heavy,12v battery similar to those used in cars.
So the weight saving is considerable. They are only the size of paper-back book and only weigh around a couple of pounds.
