excellent points palmtree! only thing i can add is that we mulch heavily with straw to keep the plants and ground moist...and to keep the weeds...
ahhh, i'm guilty of piling up the weeds and leaving them in place, too. last summer i was pulling out a bunch of weeds that got out of hand inside...
