Felt really angry when I saw that someone took off half the bark of one such rare tree - Pure vandalism, as that person too said in the video. But thanks for sharing such a video with us, all @Pacnorwest . It's not only informative, but inspiring as well.
Oh I love huge tall trees, the bigger the better, (and this cooler their shade). See this thread below, about my crazy neighbor - Who hates trees, and so is always fighting with me. Until I sent her a legal notice... https://www.gardenstew.com/threads/dendrophobia-fear-of-trees.42979/
I read your post Dendrophobia could be the issue. Very sorry you had to deal with that. Another reason why I live in the country and neighbors are acres away. I can grow what I want that grows in this zone and happy with my little forest while growing a few rare trees. I am a Dendrophile someone who loves trees as friends of our planet.
Thankfully I own other properties too now, so have the luxury to live in different places. But as for that stupid Karin neighbor - A legal notice from my lawyer seems to have straightened her out for the time being. The copy of which I've also sent to the local police station, (in case she tries anything funny while I won't be there).
Have you ever seen sequoia trees? Stand next to one makes you feel like a tiny mouse. I planted one as a seedling in my garden 25 years ago and she’s a slow grow and almost 70’ tall.
I was (and still am) obsessed with giant trees of all types - Ever since I saw that Kirk Douglas movie, The Big Trees (1952). It's now uploaded to YouTube and is free to watch, as it's out of copyright. It's about those giants redwood trees. So since childhood, whenever I see or hear about anything related to giant trees, I can't help but recall that movie.
Any movie about trees is good … and well….Kirk Douglas was a great actor. ‘The BigTrees’. Will look for that movie. Gotta see it. Thanks.
