I was happy to see my cardinal today. I had not seen him for 3 days and the weather has been very cold, snowy & icy. He looks like he may have lost a few more feathers but he was feisty and hungry.

I'm sure you worry when you don't see him. He's pretty special.

Thanks for the update, Gail. He doesn't seem to look too bad today. I hope that he will not stay away too often, you'll worry.

    He's Back

For those of you who have been following this topic...I finally got another good photo of him. I think he looks about the same. I see lots of cardinals every day but I only see him every 3 or 4 days.

Oh yes, I am very interested in how he is doing. He does look about the same -- I hope that is a good sign. He is surely a beautiful brilliant red.

Hopefully whatever is wrong with him is clearing up and when he moults he'll look just like he should again.

Is it strange that he shows up every 3-4 days? :-? Maybe he knows he is sick! :(

Video of "Red" my different looking cardinal

My different looking cardinal needed a name & Red was all I could think of  . Red and his feathered friends were around all day today. He is looking pretty good. I am still getting use to using the video function and since it is through my camera I cannot zoom or refocus. The birds are constantly moving, they just wont and still :smt026 . Red is the second male cardinal you see at the base of the birdbath.

Red doesn't seem to be embarrassed by his balding! :D And he appears to be eating good and flitting around.

That sure is a strange looking cardinal! I hope he isn't sick, but what you've said about the mites might explain it. Thanks for the info!

Thanks for the update, Gail. He's acting pretty frisky...and it appears that he has a mate.
I like your pics and videos.

I had four pair of cardinals today but I haven't seen Red for about a week. He is probably hanging out somewhere else. Unless all his feather came in and I don't recognize him. These are two of the males that visited today.

Wow! Would you look at them! Those guys are so bright.
I get the idea that they are not a terribly territorial bird...because there are so many together.
Anyway, you lucky person...It's niceto see so many in your yard.
I wonder why Red is staying away.
