Rufus likes to walk in the rain. His wool takes a long time to dry, and can become musty. I do try to cut it short, but then he feels cold. Plus, we don't have sidewalks, and a black dog doesn't show up well on a blacktop road. Doggie raincoats cost about $35 when I checked at the pet store, maybe 2 years ago. Back then I found a human raincoat for $4 and made him a poncho, but it kept sliding off due to slippery inside. I kept meaning to make him one with a liner. Im on a budget, so found a thrift store corduroy shirt for $3.50 and made a lined raincoat. This is the inside This is him wearing it. The only thing that didn't work was the velcro closures. They fall open when wet. I'm replacing them with metal snaps that should work. The good news is the raincoat doesn't slide off him any more and he doesn't mind it a bit.
Have you thought of selling your wares to make some extra money Daniel? You have the obvious talent and you would have no trouble finding customers, especially if you could make them to measure. You have one smart dog there
What a lovely coat Rufus has and what a lucky dog to have an owner like you. Dog coats are so expensive from the shops. Tetters is right you should make them and sell them.
Thank you for the nice comments. I learned to sew very young. Not as young as gardening, but we were taught that all of those skills were worth learning. I enjoy doing it, especially if it's practical and makes use of something that I can give a new life.
