I have acid soil because of all the pine and oak tree. So I'm thinking I should not put pine or oak in my composter. Please advise.

You have acid soil because you don't have much limestone in your soil.

Pine needles and oak leaves are just about perfectly neutral PH wise once fully composted.

Oak & pine in the composter

Thank you for the info Coppice. That is so good to know as I have Giant oaks and pines in my yard. Hubby chips all the small stuff so I know I will have plenty Composter doing well today. NO flys. ;)

Trees are different, they take up nourishemnt in league with mushrooms (mycelia). Pines in particular are good at doing this.

So in a round about way, if your soil in general is acidic, feeding the lawn a little lime (and as a result secondarily you feed your trees) it too is generally a good thing.

I used to lime my NH garden every other year.
