Hubby and I both had the day off work today and the weather was just absolutely perfect! So... it was time to get all the junk together! First... my grandparents archway now with my new UGLY gate! archway with gate ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) I purposely had hubby make the top uneven just to drive my brother nuts! Then we got out the good junk! Found the rake and hoe in my grandpa's old barn. The hoe blade is from Hubby's grandma (I believe). The old shovel was in my dad's stuff. And that bucket planter finally found a home! (Those are "Lemon Mist Petunias" in it that I just bought the other day.) And here's a photo of my UGLY fence with the gate open that leads to my UGLY compost bin. ugly fence ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) And then here's more junk... an old trowel (can't remember where it came from). An old bucket from my grandpa's barn. A bridle/hackamore(sp?) and horseshoe that hubby has had for a while. Oh my goodness, how UGLY is that? And I love every bit of it. Certainly wish I had a wood fence like that to hang things on.
I'm with Toni! A few plants on the trellis and it is picture perfect (sorry I love plants with "junk" or more lovingly called "collectibles" or "antiques".
That sure is better than an expanse of empty fence. I like it! Old things are neat, especially if you know the history of it. dooley
I would do UGLY any time if it ended up looking just like yours Cheryl. What a pity the only old, ugly thing around here is me.
Thanks everyone... I'm really pleased at how it's looking. I had the funniest thought... if my neighbor's weren't so "untidy"... I wouldn't have this nice fence! I have some jasmine planted so until it takes over, perhaps I need a few more plant hangers? Oh my... I do have an addiction, don't I? :-o
The tools and accessories get to relax and enjoy the sun and the garden they don't have to work anymore. Each has their own story, it is up to the viewer to interpret for themselves. Indeed it would have been a boring fence without them. Congratulations on an excellent garden display Cheryl. Jerry

Cheryl, I can't decide if you are an enabler or an inspiration. Think I'll go for inspiration! We have a section of cedar privacy fence that just needs to be "uglified". Now I'll be haunting auctions and estate sales to find some uglies ('cause I, of course, have nothing ugly on the premises, not even the hens!).
I don't think any of us need an excuse to go junk shopping but it makes the conscious rest easier if there is a good reason to give the hubby for all the ugly stuff we come home with. And this time the reason is you made us do it.
