This week-end we went to Fort Niagara to see the re-enactment of the French-Indian war (1759) and also saw more barn swallows than I've ever seen in one place before. There were nests in every eave, under the roofs which were open to the outside (and since this was the 1700's many were!) and even one set of siblings in a hole drilled into a stone building only 2 feet up from the ground. What lovely shots you managed to get of the young swallows Jill. I love it when I see the first swallows arrive here in the UK and watch them setting up home. :-D
You got a perfectly clear picture of the babies in the stone wall. I couldn't get close enough with my baby swallows. I did find a dead red-wing blackbird right below after they all flew off. Momma tree swallow was very protective and I can't blame her with so many going after them...
