"The best way to garden is to put on a wide-brimmed straw hat and some old clothes. And with a hoe in one hand and a cold drink in the other, tell somebody else where to dig." 8)
I must be the digger. No wide brimmed hat or cold drink, but I have a shovel, a hoe, a digging fork, a floral knife and a pair of pruners.
I have all of the above, plus my anti-deer tick gear: socks over pants, long sleeves, old outer clothing sprayed in permethrin. I look a fright.
Yes that is a great way to garden. Cayuga we would love to see a pic of your gardening get up. I try and go out in the garden early or late so no one see's me.
My biggest problem is gloves. I'm always complaining about blisters and my skin drying out, and every time my better half tells me to wear gloves. "You're right, honey. Let me run in and get them." I run in, grab my gloves, and get back to work with them hanging out of my pocket. He is too much of a sweety to shake his head at me. Really, It is so much easier to work bare-handed, and, the gloves get full of dirt. I need gloves that won't let the dirt in.
Beeker--I agree! What's with THAT?! I always seem to have more dirt IN the gloves than outside of them! Toots--I am away on vacation right now, but I will try to remember to post a photo of me in my anti-deer tick gardening garb upon my return. BTW, I will be in your neck of the woods next weekend: Avoca WI, visiting my cousins.
Oh Wow! How far is Avoca from Denmark, Wis? I would love to meet a fellow Stewer. I will look forward to seeing pic of your get up.
