Begun in 1931 Brookgreen Gardens, just south of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is a place to spend several hours enjoying the sculptures and gardens. View Photo Album: Brookgreen Gardens 2013 Jerry
I have spent many many hours in that place. When I first visited in about 1953, it was very run down, but so fun. It was free and self guided. No one was there to show you the way. As I got older they began to upgrade it. Looking better every time I went. There is a very soft spot in my heart for that place. I am glad you found it Jerry and enjoyed it. Did you know that the whole thing was created for a wealthy fellows wife. She was a sculpturess. That's why all the statues are there. They also said they wanted a place for the public to go to that would always be free. No entrance fee. Bet there is a charge now.....
Such beautiful gardens! I know that I will never get to see it in person. I very much appreciate the tour. Almost like being there! Thanks for posting.
