Well never again will I have live plants @Kazzawazza and @Logan...omg the mess they made before dying off...so this week hubby hoovered tank out besides having to net it to remove the leaf mess. They've been replaced by two more artificial plants and I've bought another filter pump which sucks onto the side of the tank and besides altered my filtering system at the top it now contains bio balls and 8 Evolution Aqua Pure Aquarium.

I think my cycle is ending because ammonia keeps coming up 0 but the nitrite is high at 2.0ppm and nitrate 20.00ppm and i'm only doing 2 water changes weekly and fish are being fed every 2 days days but they're healthy and very active.

Many many years ago I had two 30 gallon aquariums with an assortment of fish in each. I made the mistake of putting a new school of 9 tetras in the wrong tank. The school did fine the first day, then the next day I could only find 8, the following day 6. I then realized that the two Tiger Barbs were very happy with their new food supply. The remaining Tetras were transferred to the other tank. Problem solved. Sometimes it takes awhile to work out community issues.

@Gail-Steman I tried lots of different live plants over the years, the first ones being the lovely purple/pink coloured ones. They look nice in the shop, but when I put them in my tanks, for the first few days they were fine, then they started to fade and look a mess, leaves also went brown and broke off. The tanks looked a mess, so I took them out. From recollection I tried Anubias nana and Sword plants lots of times, sometimes even tieing them to bog wood etc. with cotton to try to get them to grow on it.

Many a time fish and plecs also dug up the plants and broke bits off and I often used to come home to plants floating around in the tanks.

Hi Kazza, I've seen this with tying them to wood but you know what i'm like and I was going mad this end...never again, hubby showed one of his friends it tonight as he's got a pond and out of his mouth is comment was, it looks like a Disney land scenery [IMG]….well you can imagine how I felt :smt022

They are now...I added four endler guppies with my normal fan tails and they was being attacked left right and centre and the chap where I brought them from said they would be ok..as soon as they was removed everything as gone fine but I told the chap weeks back not to recommend them to other people, as the endlers are hybrid a mixture of normal guppies and another species of fish and they hate larger fish.

Thank you Logan, the cycle finished on the tank and hubby as a big magnifying glass and now and again i check the fish to see if they're fine but water quality is good :)
They are Eileen, the guppies play amongst one another and the danio fish chase one another but no nipping, it's easier to get into than i thought it would as i was panicking at first as you know :)
    Thanks Islandlife :like:
