Sjoerd, what brought you to Michigan in your youth? Were you blessed to travel to other of our states? I spent my early years in the mountains of the Carolinas. When I was 3, my daddy was towerman on the highest mountain in S.C,. sass tower 2-6-70.jpg

GP—we were vacationing and travelled around the country and looked up Dutch clubs in various communities. It was an interesting feeling walking the streets of Holland, Mich. and seeing Dutch names on windows of businesses. Why someone in the community had somehow acquired a windmill, let it be shipped to the States and then be re-assembled. It was a wondrous site.
We travelled to many other states.

What a great, old piccy of that tower.

Sadly the old tower is no longer standing. A huge observation pad? deck?
whatever has replaced it. It is no longer necessary that a human watch for fires. We lived near the old tower in a small log cabin.

Sjoerd, My bf and I, and his family, are planning to travel to Amsterdam, then on to Denmark and Norway at this time next year. I hope I get to take some tulip and windmill pics! So beautiful!

There ought to be plenty to see because they are everywhere.
I would not advise coming this tear though as the covid is too rampant and our hospitals are too full at the moment.
But yeah, you will see the old mills and colourful fields all over the place at this time of year.
The threads called “Travels in Norway 1,2 and 3” come to mind...also “Travels In Denmark 1 and 2”. You can search these on this website, they could be fun to see.

GP it really is awesome there. Such dramatic landscapes. I really liked the driving trip we made a few years ago.

I had an internet friend who spent time in Norway with her son who lives there. He took her on a driving tour. Simply awesome scenery.
