Has anyone had any problems with composting old dried fruit? Found an old bag of dried cranberries in the back of the fridge, put a few out for the birds, but is it ok to compost? The only 2 ingredients are cranberries and sugar.

When ever I get something with sugar to add in my compost, I feel like I am giving the compost pile a boost. No it is not a problem adding old dried fruits with sugar into the compost. The sugar will give the composting bacteria a boost!

KKNg is right--sugar added either directly or in the form of sugared fruit will help the compost pile. I even throw in frosted doughnuts and breakfast rolls.

Whoa, good to know. Now I can treat myself to a half dozen donuts and save one or two for the compost barrel. ;)

My chickens get all that kind of stuff. They get almost all our leftovers plus things we can't use out of the garden .

Thank you for the input! Good to know.
I know that yeast feeds on sugar when making baked goods, so that figures that the bacteria would like it.
