    Hello all,
I am getting ready to start putting in flagstone pathways that will be part of a cottage garden. Any helpful hints on the best/easiest way to do this? My plan right now is to dig down and put layers of gravel and sand beneath the stone. Any help is appreciated :-D

Can you come to my house when you're finished??? :D
I want to do this too. I'm thinking if I don't put down some kind of a walkway to my garden shed I'll just wear the grass down to the dirt :D

I put in a flagstone walkway in Arizona. I just set the flagstone down where I wanted it, drew the shape around it, moved the flagstone and dug just enough to fit the flagstone in the space. But, most people do put a layer of sand under the flagstone. I guess it depends on what your soil is to begin with. Ours was a little rocky, a little sand and some more rocks. Just don't set it too deep or when it rains the sand and rock will wash over it. dooley

If you lay out the stones and leave then for a while it will kill the grass underneath make it easier to rip up. The nis coloured grass will tell you exactly where to dig.
