Hi all! I would love some recommendations on herbs that you can simply taste without cooking. I've got a gardening friend who's doing a lovely thing with a farm where folks can walk through the wildflowers, take photos and taste the herbs along a certain stretch.

I'd love to start looking for some unique herbs to send her. She's sent us some seeds for my daughters to grow in their cutting garden this year and I'd like to return the favor with some cool herbs that will add to her farm's experience.

So far I am on the lookout for lemon basil and different kinds of mint but figured I'd do well to increase the list for better searching.

Any tips and suggestions are appreciated!

Nasturtiums have a lovely mustard flavour and the flowers are edible too. Maybe look at edible flowers for your friend. I cannot resist eating rocket or parsley when I go into my garden.

I love nothing better than strolling through the garden nibbling on homegrown plants!
Basil and tarragon are my two favorites. Nasturtiums, pansys, daylilys, lavender, calendula, roses are all edible flowers. Borage blooms look great in ice cubes and are edible.
Dill, parsley, cilantro, mint, chamomile are a few easy ones to grow that can be eaten fresh.

These are fantastic suggestions - thank you both so much! I had no idea about pansy and daylily being edible!

Yes, sage is great--so useful, so fragrant, and pretty, too. I use sage fresh and dried. Thanksgiving wouldn't be the same without cornbread/sausage/sage dressing!

Every year, I grow lots of cilantro and sweet basil. We also have lots of Rosemary, mints, and sage. I like oregano so grow it to use on pizza and in spaghetti sauce. Bees also love oregano flowers. We grow dill for pickles.

I have some of the ones suggested. I love peppermint. Chives are nice to taste for those who like onions.

Dandelions are edible. You can eat the flowers, leaves, and roots.

Edible flowers include redbud flowers, and violets. They have a mild pleasant flavor and look pretty in a salad. You can also freeze them and they will keep their colors.

    I love curly parsley.

Love chives but hate onions mostly due to texture. I love curly parsley but have been unable to find it this year.

Patio, have you tried garlic chives? They are not for cooking, must be used raw and fresh, but give a nice garlic taste when used as a garnish.
Curly parsley is nice, but not as nice as flat leaf Italian parsley. The flat leaf is much more tasty.

Sorry for the late reply. Yes to garlic chives. I have several of those. Garlic chives along with finely chopped sage go great with potato dishes especially mashed potatoes!
