    Hello all
We have some finches at home which are amazing to have. They seem to be mating a lot and the female seems to be trying to make a nest because she's dumping the seed from the feeding box. We have put some cotton wool in one of the boxes but she doesn't seem happy with that. Anyone know if we have to put in a special nesting box and what do we feed any newborns.

Sorry, I didn't read your post well enough and thought you were talking about wild birds. The pet store where you bought them should be able to give you all that information and have some of the supplies you will need. I think as long as you provide the needed materials...nesting and food...you won't be doing anything, they know how it goes.

Try putting some straw or just dead grasses. That may be more natural for them. Some birds regurgitate food to feed their young. I bet you can find this info online. I have never looked for finches,,just wild birds.

Don’t they feather the nest themselves with bits of braken etc.
