    Hello everyone!

I'm a 'newbie' flower garden enthusiast. I always loved planting little flowers in my backyard growing up. Recently, I moved into a new house with a huge backyard. Didn't look like much in the beginning, but now I've cleaned out the flower boxes that were built into the patio, restained them and I've also added a nice sized work table, a few benches and I've made a cool potter holder out of a staircase type of deal that I found behind the shed. It's still going to take a lot of time and effort to tame all of the weeds and things that grew back there for years but its got lots of potential. I've planted a wildflower mix in the front box along with a few flowers I found at Lowes and I also recently started planting seedlings in DIY trays that I made. The basil that I planted is growing like crazy!

I'm a newbie, with very little experience starting a garden but I find it super enjoyable. I have found lots of flowers in my backyard that I can't identify, that's what pushed me to look for an online community full of garden enthusiasts.

Hi Suki, welcome to GardenStew from north central Texas. I lived in West Palm Beach many years ago and could grow just about anything I wanted in that weather. Don't miss the Palmetto Bugs though!!!
Looking forward to any and all photos you want to share, we love them.

    Thanks, guys!

Frank, it's pretty cool and it holds quite a few pots. I'll post a picture once the seeds I planted start to pop up!

Toni, I've lived in SoFlo all my life and I don't mind the Palmetto Bugs but I don't think I'd miss the mosquitos! I can't spend 5 minutes outside without a thick layer of bug spray.

    Thanks Kate!

I think since I've started a garden, the mosquito population has grown because of the damp environment.

I found a post on Pinterest listing plants the repel mosquitos, so we will see if that works for natural pest control!

Hi Suki, welcome to our garden group from Chelmsford, MA. A new yard is lots of fun and challenging. Unidentified flowers? We can help with that. Pictures, when you can, will help. There are lots of things to see and do here.

    Welcome aboard,

    Jerry
