Hi. Would I be correct in identifying this as being a honeysuckle? The pale yellowy green leaves seem to suggest this. My plant also has some old berries on it. Just want to check before I move it to somewhere where it can climb a little.

It looks like the leaves but my honeysuckle has red berries. There are more than one sort though so maybe it's a different type. Dooley

I just went out and took a piccie of one of my honeysuckles for you Pete - it has black berries. Hope it helps you to identify your plant. It does look very like a honeysuckle to me.

Eileen, yours has leaves that are longer and more pointed than Pete's. But it could be a close relative with the dark berries. The searches I did for honeysuckles all said they had red berries.
I did find this picture of one with the yellow/green leaves.

The picture I posted is of an evergreen honeysuckle Toni that's why the leaves are different but I do have deciduous honeysuckle plants that have black berries on them and others with red berries that look a lot like Petes one.
Maybe if you take a cutting from your plant Pete and then take it along to a garden centre or nursery they will be able to give you a definite ID. :-D
Do let us know what it turns out to be won't you?

I never realized just how many varieties of honeysuckle there are until this morning when I started the google searches. I love honeysuckle even if it is considered an invasive weed and not recommended by the 'gardening professionals'

So do I Toni as they have the most gorgeous scent too!! :D I have one that has pink and red flowers, one with yellow and white, one with orange and yellow and one with red and white. :-D They're easily enough trained up against a fence or wall and can be cut back without too much hassle. My garden just wouldn't be complete without them.

Thanks for all your input. I've found a good example at the link below. The leaves and their formation on the stem are so close to what I have here. What puzzles me is there are no typical runners rooting themselves at the base, which I am used to finding, and the stems are a lot less pliable to enable them to arc down to the ground and root. Pity the last people didn't leave the label on like they've done on one or two of the others plants.
I'll do as suggested and take a sprig along to the local garden centre.

Oh I don't have a pink and white one. Now I wonder where I could fit it into my garden. :p
