So, I'm redesigning my room and I've run into a problem: I can't find a rug! My new room will be white walls, black trim which is along the bottom, the doors, and windows, and I'm looking for a red and black retro rug. I've found white and black retro rugs, but I want to add some color in there.

I am on a tight budget, so the price must be affordable. Any suggestions as to where I should look? Thank you!

Hi Ashley. Are you feeling crafty?
I've seen some wonderful "custom" rugs made from inexpensive carpet "scraps".

    Here's one example, (click here)
she just used duct tape on the back to hold the pieces together.
You might even be able to get free "left-over" pieces from a carpet store.

Hm, I am a very crafty person...and a homemade rug would be wonderful, but I'm just not sure if it would go with my room.

You could ask for pieces in black and red, and use a simple geometric design.
Maybe even all red with one black square . . . or vice versa.

    Just a thought. :-D

    rug edging

If you don't like the raw edges of the carpet remnant rug, many carpet stores can bind the edges for you. It's inexpensive, and it gives a finished look to the rug (and keeps tufts of carpet from fraying away).

The other thought would be to find a solid colored remnant in either red or black, and then splatter paint it in the other color. This would work well on a low pile, or berber carpet.
