Sjoerd, any ideas why my iPad smilies don't work in my posts here?
    Thanks!

Hmmmm Kate. I am not sure at all. When on here, I almost always use my PC. I cannot recall trying to place a smiley with my iPad. If I can get a mo, I shall experiment. You are trying to place the smilies that are available on this website, correct?

Hi Kate, it's because the images for the iPad smilies are located on your iPad, not located here on the GardenStew server/hosting computer. The GardenStew smilies work because when you add them to a post our website knows where to find them and then displays them. In the case of the smilies on your iPad our website has no access to them.

Hope this helps to explain why.

Sometimes the smilies on iPads or other chat apps are simple substitutions for regular text smilies. So for example if you inserted a happy smilie it would be the same as typing the : ) smilie. However I think when a text smilie appears in your web browser / Safari it is not substituted in the same way. That's just my educated guess as I don't use an iPad.
