OH, I am so disgusted with plant markers. I have spent a fortune and oodles of time trying to find the right kind of markers and what to write with. Copper doesn't work well as it tarnishes and you can't see the words. I used a point to make an indention in the metal. It takes more maintenance than the plant itself. Silver colored metal seems to work ok.... Special pencils and permament markers disappear. The best so far is the plastic knives and forks. Handle up I used the brother P-Touch label maker. It seems to last the best. I have a few that will be left over the winter to see how they last. My problem with them is that the squirrels. They seem to like to play with my forks and knives. I am not good at matching up the markers to the plants yet. Frustrated Barb in Pa
I've used acrylic paint with good results. A bit time consuming, but it does last. It's also a little hard to keep the letters uniform.
It's funny, I was just browsing for some seeds on Ebay and saw some of those black waxy pencils offered for marking on plant labels. They probably would work. I've bought items at yard and tag sales marked with that, and I've really had to scrub to remove it. It might be worth a try. I think they also sell them at office supply stores.
Oh Yes, The old time grease pencils or even some kind of crayons. I use those 2 things on my canning jars instead of sticky labels. Barb in Pa.
My metal blind makers. I painted names on with VERY little brush. I coated edge with clear nail polish. Cut the heck out a finger before. Painted some small flowers on them to make pretty also have stickers and coated with polish also. Got blinds free they trimmed some some for a lady.
koszta kid, OH yes, I have allot of those blinds left over from my daughter. That is probably the best idea so far. All I know is that after Donna brought it up, I realized I have to do something with my gardens and my greenhouse labels. I don't know enough about the names of plants anymore to take the chance of loosing them.I have seen so many of these blinds in garage sales and in peoples garbage. Donna, what do you think?????? Thank you ever so much. Barb in Pa.
Donna, LOL, that is so funny. When I moved into this house, we through all the blinds out and have nothing now. That was 15 or so windows worth. Now I am thinking of buying new ones. Something doesn't seem right here...... Barb in Pa.
Are they a hard metal or soft like aluminum? if they are aluminum you may be able to "write" on them with a ball point pen. You need to push very hard on a surface that has a little give, such as a cutting board, and it leaves an impression rather than an ink mark.
