Nice... I found a lil maple tree many years ago growing in a crack in my driveway. Was hard to get out but managed too. It grew as tall as I am but then died. But it was a neat exepience. Good luck
I'm sure they will... I think my mistake was keeping it in a pot..... big pot but still.... I think I had it for 3 or 4 years. May be pics of it under my 2012 pics.... well off to work I go. Have a great night hun and keep us posted. Id love to know how they do.
Maple Trees are deciduous but sometimes they will live without a true cold Winter especially in the Va and NC area. Now also because both of you got something started natively you would think they would both grow. If they defoliate all at once they may be going into a self induced rest and at sometime later it will sprout out new leaves all at once. Mrs. Galeassi, I hope you waited long enough to decide that the little thing was truly dead, especially since the mother plant must have been native to your house.... donna in nc, I have many trees in my greenhouse that, since I keep the temp a little lower, defoliate every few years. I worry every year and then all of a sudden in what the little plant thinks is beginning Spring, it sprouts all new leaves. It's very cute. Hope all this made sense to everyone cause sometimes it's hard for me to put my thoughts into words.... I think, one big thing for you guys, is to leave it outside for the Winter....
Maples create a massive root system, you should move them to individual larger pots until you decide when and where to plant them in ground so they don't crowd each other out. And since they do have massive root systems make sure the spot you choose for their in ground home is far enough away from the house to prevent foundation or driveway damage from those roots in future years. But planting them out now or later is your choice. Nurseries keep them in pots until they are sold at a much larger size but Mother Nature starts them in the ground and they grow up from there.
