I am growing 'The Sutton' Broad beans. I have never grown them before so don't really know what I am doing. Just going along as it grows. Been in the garden today and notice it is starting to flower. Do I just leave them to flower or do I need to pinch them off? It's not fully flowered yet but it looks so pretty. Leave the flowers. The bean grows from the bottom of a pollinated flower. Any pinching-off you do with the top of the adult plant at the first sign of aphids. Those Suttons look like they are coming along quite nicely. You are doing well with those, aren't you.
Thank you Sjoerd. Can you get aphids in a raised bed greenhouse? I have never done this before so trying to learn while I grow.
Well, I'll tell you that I have only had aphids in my greenhouse once. It was the only year that I did not plant marigolds in the greenhouse. It was a sad disaster. I wonder if it coincidence or if the plants really DID make a difference. I assume that the marigolds did make a difference as I do not really believe much in coincidence. I have never grown beans in there because I simply do not have enough room. You may be oké with your set-up. Keep us posted.
