We have a native dove--the White Wing dove. They are numerous, so much so that there is a hunting season for them. I don't understand shooting a bird to get an edible breast the size of a golf ball. They come to our feeders and roost in our trees. Our farm is a "safe place" since we don't allow hunting.
I like the looks of that bird. I realise that they are tasty, but what a shame to shoot such lovely creatures. I commend you for not allowing hunting on your property. I think that it is good to have safe zones here and there for nature.
We have all 4 local doves that we feed ! Ring neck, White wing, Morning doves and Common ground doves !! We do not allow hunting either and because we feed them in our drive way,, we would sure know if someone tried to sneak in ! A few 80 and 90 lb dogs would make sure they did not get out of their car !
Mart, we have Incas and the occasional Mourning dove, but not on a regular basis. We are always thrilled to see an Inca or Mourning dove. Would you mind sending a few our way
