Anthropologically speaking, even in religious mythology (of the most popular big 3 religions) - Humankind started from the alleged "Garden" of Eden. Basically a place of healthy abundance, where everything is within arms reach.

I guess today's equal would be a supermarket in a shopping mall with a food court.

But seriously, yes, I completely get your point. Our relationship with plants is a never ending one. Proof of which is, that in places where we can now have everything very comfortably via synthetic means - Like inside a submarine which doesn't surface for days or weeks and sometimes (if nuclear powered) doesn't need to surface for many mothers, (until food supply last) - Crew still sometimes bring real small indoor plants with them on the voyage.

Same story in the difference space stations humanity has launched into orbit. As well as on outposts in remote locations here on Earth, like many countries have in Antarctica.

This has never been discouraged. As psychologists long ago realized, that plants can only help in improving the mood of everyone around them. Even an artificial plant, or just pictures of plants works. Although not as potently as the real thing. But still, it works.
