Did a flat of perennials with my 8 yr old. I let her choose the variety in each row and drop the seed. She really enjoys doing it and gets excited cause as she learned in school flowers provide food for bees, butterflies and moths. We did coreopsis, verbena, snapdragon, salvia, foxglove, hollyhock, dianthus and milkweed.

Great variety, Clay. I like how you involve your child. That is such a good idea. It is so nice to see that she takes to heart what she learned about bees, butterflies and moths and their relation to flowers. I hope that she maintains an interest in nature.

Clay, encouraging your little girl to play a part in growing plants is, in my book, one of the best gifts you can give her. In today's world, this is pure therapy and a valuable pastime. :like:

Ahhh, learning children how things grow is such an important lesson in my opinion. I hope you've planted a seed of seed-planting love in your daughter now. We did the same with ours, but went for peas and carrots since they didn't want to eat their veggies. We had no problem after they got to harvest and eat the ones they had grown themselves.

Such a valuable gift for a child, to be encouraged to make things grow. You do well Clay!
