They have been coming here for a few years now. I took this picture on the deck in Jan. 2004. I think it was the first time they came.

How wonderful to have pileated visit daily! That is a great photo, by the way.
We have red-bellied here. I've only heard them, not seen them yet, but I have hope!

I agree Jane that it's a great photograph.
We've had Great Spotted Woodpeckers here for a few years now but I never seem to get as good shots of them as Kildale does with his.

You are both too kind. Thank you for the comments. That is the female, took this shot of the male yesterday.

    Cool Kildale.
I have only seen them a couple times around here, but I know there are many more I don't see. Once we had a yellow bellied sap sucker pecking row of holes on the maple tree.

I was wondering what your Pileated reminded me of when I saw your photograph of the male. The shape of the head is vaguely similar to that of a roadrunner. Then again it could just be my weird eyes!! :smt120

Both Male and Female have attractive colours,..sturdy looking birds as well,..nice to see them.

They do resemble the Roadrunner :)

Wow that is so neat Kildale. We have them around by us also. But haven't seen them in a while. I love them all.
