I posted this vine in early spring, but no one could identify. So trying again now that it is bigger. I have not seen any blooms but it now has beans.

Hmmm ..... can you take a close up photo of the bean pod? The vine itself looks just like any bean plants. I am growing some long beas or yard long beans and the plants look like yours. I'll get a photo posted in a while.

This is how my yard long bean looks like and in Chinese we just call it long beans. I planted these beans on the spot where the tomatoes failed. You can see the remaining tomatoes at the other end of the beans.

I am not sure whether the leaves are normally this big because this is my first time planting them. I know they are very healthy because they look it :-D

Did it have little purple/pink star-shaped flowers before the pods came out? It looks just like a vine that grows around a gazebo thing in the yard. Vines very aggressively. I have been trying to find out what it is, too.

Pole beans grow pretty tall, too. Pick one off and try it.

    KK, Toad & Carolyn,

I've seen no blooms. And the beans do not smell like green beans.I have pole beans growing and they do not look like them. The whole plant looks very delicate. The plant was a volunteer that came up in a pot in the greenhouse this last spring.

Leaves and beans are very small. A quarter would almost cover leaf. ( photo / image / picture from Donna S's Garden )

There are several varieties of 'pole beans'...the name just means that the plant grows by twinning up a pole. But I am not adventurous enough to eat one until they had been definitely identified.

Could be a runner bean, I suppose...or perhaps a mix.

Would you open one of the pods and show us the beans. I wonder if they are spotted or daerk in colour, or even white.

I cannot tell if these beans are smoothe or a little "furry", if they are completely round or slightly flat.

The foliage certainly does look like bean foliage though. Odd that you have seen no flowers. If you cut about a foot or so off the very end of the vines, you may get side branches and thus more blooming and bean production.
The foliage looks right, but something makes me wonder if it really is a "domestic" bean or not. Something about how the vine grows.

...I forgot to ask--did you plant this plant, or is it a blow-in?

If its from a greenhouse,, no telling what it might be. I don`t think I would eat it till you know for sure what it is.

Well Donna, it definately isn't a runner bean that's for sure. There are indeed climbing beans that develop purple shells. Like Mart says, I do not think it wise to eat them until you can positively identify this plant.
Did ypou buy this bean, or is it a "volunteer"?

Those arer good pics and to help eliminate a few things. The pods and leaves are quite a bit smaller than I thought.
The plat looks suspect to me.
