For some reason, this interesting discussion was available at the bottom of a page, so I clicked it. Combining some of my favs with what was mentioned here, here's a list, including stripes of color, and backs of leaves...

    Begonia (various, mainly Rex'es)
    Callisia fragrans
    Callisia repens
    Croton
    Gibasis geniculata (Tahitian bridal veil)
    Gynura (purple velvet)
    Hemigraphis (waffle plant)
    Iresine
    Lorapetalum
    Oxalis
Perilla (often mistaken for a Coleus)
    Plectranthus (various)
    Pseuderanthemum
    Senecio (various)
    Strobilanthes dyerianus (Persian shield)
Tradescantia pallida (formerly called Setcreasea pallida)
Tradescantia spathacea (Formerly called Rhoeo spathacea)
    Tradescantia zebrina

    Anything else?

Here's a new Hemigraphis I got a few days ago. It's more purple in person than this pic.

Who else has some great purple plants?

This is a purple flowering house plant if that is any good? It's a Anthurium apparently, which to be fair I've only seen in Red.

(I'll try and post a image of it below, sorry if it goes wrong it's my first image attempt :D )

CritterPainter, that's an excellent link for purple plants.
Glenndan, wandering jew and moses in a boat are 2 different plants.
Fish... You need to be looking for low and medium light plants. There are many purple plants on that link above, but not so many low - medium light houseplants. Crotons are not very satisfactory houseplants - higher light requirements, target for spider mites. Tradescantia will probably work for awhile (winter), but unless you buy a big one to begin with, be aware it will take awhile to grow. If you want a nice big plant, how about a Cordyline fructicosa (Hawaiian ti)? Purple leafed philodendron might be nice. Also purple-flowered bromeliads or orchids.

The leaves on this Thanksgiving cactus turned purple in the sun this summer.
