I needed some garlic for a recipe and extracted 6 cloves from the garlic jar. Needing to do 6 cloves sent me to the gadget drawer where I retrieved the garlic tube. We happened across this tube along with a garlic grater(a small plate with dimples) at a flower show.

The tube is quite efficient in removing the tunic from the clove.

Place the clove in the tube, place both on a flat surface and roll the tube with the palm of your hand while pressing down.

You can sometimes hear the tunic separate from the clove. Remove the
    separated tunic .

Done!! 6 cloves can be done in about a minute.

Slice the cloves and that part of the recipe was done.

I saw Pampered Chef has one of these, too, but the price was a little steep for me. Then I saw a quick bit somewhere on using a Silpat mat. Which is a silicone mat used for baking. It does work as long as the counter and your hands are dry. Your little tube would be more efficient/easier, I think.

What a handy kitchen implement. Is it soft then, that tube?
    Works a charm, doesn't it.

Brilliant! Now I'm going to be looking for a soft tube for rolling garlic (can hardly wait to go to our local hardware store and explain what I need and why!).
How do you wash it--by hand, or is it dishwasher safe?

The tube is quite flexible and we don't have a dishwasher…..well not quite true….I wash she dries or she washes and I dry. Neither of us have scrubbed the blue off and we have had it since……..don't go away …..I'm checking when we went to the flower show…….Feb 2011. :)

The grater it came with is 5 inches in diameter and has sharp points that bite into the garlic as you rub it across the surface. Also quite efficient.

P.S. I did find the garlic peeler on Amazon. Even used ones

TRhanks for the update, Mr Sullivan. That really is an interesting kitchen helper.
I do dislike getting my fingertips so sticky when pealing the garlics before pressing them.

Give that boy a gold star! ;)
