We had a dead dish floating in the water and then a seagull I think started pecking at it and eating it. Another gull hovered over it and wanted a free meal ... The gull hovering should have just grabbed it from behind...the one on the water wasn't paying attention to where his meal was... June 30, 2018 059 (2).jpg

Did the gull in the air give up and leave the youngster to its meal or did it manage to get it away from him? Excellent photographs!!

Good for him. He actually looks as though he's protecting his meal in 2nd and 3rd photographs. We have a pair of Herring gulls here in the village that hang around waiting for birds to leave their nests to go in search of food. They then swoop down and try to grab eggs, or worse, nestlings. :(

Gulls have a mantra, whatever a gull finds is: 'Mine, Mine, Mine'.

Oh! oh! True restaurant story.....A few tables away from us at a Maine seashore restaurant featuring outside tables, a woman left to go to the restroom. A sharp eyed herring gull spied the unattended food and before anyone could react swooped in and made off with a sizeable piece of fish from the ladies plate. A lesson learned for customers of seaside restaurant outside tables.

Interesting story Jerry, I have heard of them taking things from childrens hands and I guess no one in front of the plate is fair game...

Seen the movie Finding Nemo? Those gulls have Mine, Mine, Mine down to almost a rhythm you could dance to.

July 23, 2018 028 (2).jpg I think the seagulls have the most annoying sounds of all birds...the neighbors that come up occasionally have about fifty or more of them on their dock and sit there all day making sounds... Here is a picture with only some of the birds they get...what a mess it must be..
