We harvested the last of our potatoes yesterday, and I finally got them sorted out and brought some inside for using soon. The Red LaSodas did the best, both in size and amount. Kinnebecs did very well, and we'll plant those again next season. The Yukon Golds were a bit disappointing, as they were last year. I think we'll just skip those next time. Anyway, here are some of the Reds we brought in. I'll be sharing with friends, but we'll be eating potatoes frequently!
Kennebecs are pretty potatoes,, smooth, white and mid size ! But just don`t produce like the reds do ! Good harvest there MG ! Yukon Golds did not do well here either ! Guess they don`t like Texas !
nice Jane. I have never grown those and this year is not be the year to try them once again. it rains day after day here. rained lots last night as we went to bed.poured. gutters overflowing kind of rain. rain in the forecast everyday for the next 10 days and cool. 70's. oyvey! lots and lots of crops not planted yet and maybe not at all???? it is unbelievably wet here. so thankful for my high tunnels.
Carolyn, so sorry you are having really uncooperative weather! Same here, except to a lesser extent. We were late planting several vegetables, and the squash drowned. If you need to know the size of a "cubit" and plans for an ark, we have them!
Thank you Jane for the offer of the plans. I went to see the reconstruction of the ARK encounter and I was less than impressed. I sincerely have no desire to actually build one and live on it too. today is nice. not hot. cool breeze blowing through from the East. weird. tomorrow rain again and then the day after and the day after that so on and so on.
Those muffled sounds you hear is me choking with envy. They look so good. Thanks for naming names of the spuds. Those spuds of yours are a sight for sore eyes.
Sjoerd, you're welcome for the names of the potatoes. The big one on the left is Louis, the middle one is Henry, and the rest are named alphabetically. I had a bit of trouble finding an X name and a Z name until I remembered my Greek mythology. The small potatoes aren't named since they will be eaten soon and I don't want to get attached to them.
Marlingardner, great harvest of reds. I took enough out yesterday to make a large bowl of potato salad. The plants are beginning to yellow and haven't flowered. I may take them up next week. The Yulon Gold should be ready soon. I'm puzzled by the yellowing but no flowers.
@Growingpains I would not worry about no flower, potatoes often do this. Adverse weather conditions and the flowers drop. Also some varieties hardly ever Flower. Anyway I am off to harvest some spuds
