Hello. I live in Romania and it gets really cold in winter. Cold weather lasts about 5 months. I have a few questions. 1. I got a kind of ginger - not the edible one, but one that grows kinda long and thick stems, and makes yellow flowers (mine hasn't made any flowers yet - but the ones in middle China where I got some roots did!). The entire fall and winter (last year) I had them in pots.... didn't grow much. In spring I transplanted them outside and have grown nicely. Like I said, more stems, longer, thicker, big leaves .... but no flowers. And cold weather is close. What can I do? Transplant it back to pots over the winter? Cut the stems and keep the rhizomes in a cool place? Take it out and let it dry? Like a ginger? How to store it till next April??? 2. I am starting to collect some seeds. What's the best way to store seeds? For longer time? Just in paper and that's it? In the fridge? Won't they rot in the fridge? 3. Some of the plants I got and will move them inside.... tend to grow tall and skinny during winter time.... I guess not enough light and stuff. How can I stop them from growing like that? Reduce the water? Well, any help with these qs will help
So sorry about not replying to your post. I must have overlooked it somehow. Here is a website all about over wintering bulbs and other tender roots. http://www.ext.nodak.edu/county/cass/ho ... r/care.htm and another one about how to store seeds. http://agebb.missouri.edu/hort/meg/arch ... 0/meg4.htm Finally if you scroll down the list on this website you'll find solutions that may help you out with your 'leggy' plants. http://www.windowbox.com/cgi-bin/expert ... icleID=213
