It started when I found it on the end of Spring sale table at Lowe's. I had never had a Peony before but figured I would try one.

1st year it sat in the pot in a shady spot waiting for me to find a home for it.
2nd year it struggled in a semi-sunny spot.
3rd year I moved it thinking it would do better in full sun. NOPE Texas full sun is totally different than full sun in zones 3-7 so it spent that summer covered with a sheet laying over tomato cage.
4th year I moved to a totally shady spot and waited all through last summer for signs of life.
Moved fallen leaves off last January to see if there were any shoots and there were. Then almost over night it became a small shrub with gorgeous healthy leaves. Yesterday afternoon I found a BUD on it. I have no idea the species or cultivar since it was untagged on the sale table and the label on the pot just said Peony.

It looks like the flower may be pink or red if the coloring on the bud is true.

Toni, you are a life saver! Please share the full bloom picture with us. I am guessing a dark pink flower.

I'm glad it's now settled and enjoying its spot in the garden. It certainly looks very healthy and it won't be too long before it bursts into flower for you.

I can't wait to see it in full bloom. I really love to see everyone's flowers.

If there's one thing that always brightens up my day it's a tale of a plant being rescued / saved! It looks mighty healthy Toni. Thank you!

    What an odyssey!
Well, Toni...the main thing now is that it's blooming. Peonies are notorious for being slow (like in terms of years) to bloom after transplanting.
I think that you deserve a gold star. :)

Good job... and nice show of patience... to find the perfect spot for it. Can't wait to see the first blooms.

I got a photo of the bloom, not sure if it's a pretty bloom or the way they usually look since I have never had one before.

It's the palest of pink but really pretty.

Oh my goodness Toni, that is gorgeous! Looks a lot like a 'Sarah Bernhardt'. You must remember to put your nose in there and smell it. Sarah Bernhardt isn't the most fragrant, but it smells great :)

Beautiful Toni! I agree with Netty, that it might be 'Sara Bernhardt'. In any case, it seems very happy with the location you found for it. Congrats!
