Good Monday morning all. Currently -37°C and sunny. No busses running today due to the frigid temperatures, so I have my daughter home today. My son also has the day off due to the extreme cold. It should slowly start to warm up as tomorrows high temperature is only -3°C, and then the following day we get above freezing.
We were at a skating competition yesterday, where my daughter got a 1st and 3rd place medal. Today, she is using her day off to study for her exams next week.
    I'll be cleaning house.
Have a great day all :)

    Hiya doin'.
Today the first stem was taken in the bee stand project. The Bride, my mate and I sat around the LR table and drew up some plans and discussed several options. We decided upon a plan and did the math. My mate and I went out to buy the screws and wood for the project and tomorrow we will assemble the prototype. If all goes well, we will make all three.

The reason that I am doing this is because the present stand is sinking into the ground and listing to the left. The weight of the full hives is proving too much for the ground. There is a relatively un-deep layer of what we call veen on top of soft clay and water. This time I will place the legs of the stands on paving stones instead of sinking them into the soil. Welp, wish me luck.

Sjoerd, we have shifting soil here, and my husband built a frame that looked like two H's joined together. The hives were placed on top of the frame, and have remained stable for several years. He's an engineer and can figure out a solution to almost any problem (I am still here, so he hasn't figured out a solution to me!). When we rebuilt the outside coop for the hens, he used the same configuration, but with heavier wood. That has worked well, too.
Good luck with your project, and please let us know how it turns out.

Good Tuesday morning all. Currently -21°C and clear. No wind today, so the cold temperatures don't feel as bad today. Yesterday it was a good 20 degrees colder.
Laundry and cleaning to do today, and then a skating class later.
Have a great day all :)

Good Wednesday morning all. Currently -6°C, which feels almost tropical compared to the -41°C we had on the weekend.
We had lots of snow overnight, and it is still falling. My daughter was disappointed that it wasn't a 'snow day' and that she had to go to school.
Today, I'm going to catch up on some paperwork and laundry.
Have a great day all :)
