I love to read, but don't often get the time to sit and read a novel. I just finished reading 'The Lost Gardens of Heligan" by Tim Smit. It is a true story about 'Heligan' - a 1000 acre estate that was in the Tremayne family for over 400 years. Tragedy struck during the first world war when over half of the staff were killed during duty. It would be 70 years before the gardens were touched again. This is the story of the restoration of the lost gardens. This story is so well written that I felt like I was there! There are some amazing photos included but once I was done, I wanted more!!! Here is the official site of Heligan http://www.heligan.com/
I know these gardens. They have been the homebase for the Springwatch shows several times. It is a wonderful place...and the work that has been done to restore it is just fantastic and a real tribute to the British people. They still have alot to do but one has to feel sure that the work will go on in a professional manner.I like a place where there is alot of focus on animals.
