We have been swamped with all the new finches pestering their parents, they must be sick of them. Here is dad with junior.
You are probably right Kildale. You know, i have been surprised by how much birds can remember. I used to raise parakeets when my kids were little. We gave one young'un away to a friend. Two years later the friend asked me to take care of the bird while she was on vacation. As soon as I placed the cage next to the cage of the parents, the mother bird immediately flew over & began to feed the "baby".
For the past week "our" house finches have been feeding their young. Their flights back and forth a seemingly never ending food line. Soon the parents will be coaxing their charges to venture into a strange new world. We hope to be there when they fledge. One year the parents nested on an outdoor house lamp. One day I hazered a glance into the nest to check on their progress only to be met with a face full of feathers as the 3 nestlings used my presence to fledge. Nesting season is always a source of wonder and education. Jerry
They're so colourful, we have green finches over here but haven't seen any for a few years or more in our garden.
