The first meal we had on the way to Penang was in Kuala Lumpur and it was terrible. It was a simple bowl of noodles way below my expectation ... like I always said this place is not fit for humans even though I spent 33years here earning a living. Tasteless and no veggie! Very unappetizing. Lunch was a different story all together, it was delicious and yummy! It was in a remote used to be tin mining town and is now famous for giant fresh water prawns. Steam to perfection with Chinese rice wine - YUM! Haven't had these for ages because with all the pollution going on in the rivers wild ones are almost impossible to find. I think these are cultivated in the old mining ponds. These are veggie dumplings which is famous in this part of Penang where my son's house. The one on the right is filled with chives and that on the left is jicama. Full of flavours but presentation need to be improved greatly. This is "koay chap", something new for us and it was worth trying. Nice and yummy! Follow the link for a full description. Next we have Penang rojak. We have many different kind of "rojak" here but Penang rojak is the most famous. Our son took us to this Japanese restaurant and it was good. Did not had any Japanese food since we came back from our Japan trip. Tempura Ramen Cold Soba Fried Toufu OOps! I think I have reached the maximum size for photos per post.
And the meal continues Stir fried mushroom with scallops. Sorry seems to have a problem with the Sashimi photo, there is still space in the first post. Let me try to sort it out and continue Yes! my favourite, assorted sashimi. Wanton noodle. It is nice but our home made one is much nicer . Then we went to a Chinese restaurant on the Island called Old House Restaurant. In this restaurant you do not order the dishes, you eat whatever is served and price is fixed, no menu. The food is simple but really good. Never knew stir fried cabbage can taste this fantastic and lotus root soup. Plain rice and Chinese tea. Very nicely done fried fish, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Chinese roast pork belly ... yum! It was a fantastic dinner. A simple lunch at a restaurant. From left to right, deep fried toufu, stir fried sweet potato leaves, steam barramundi head, sweet sour pork and fried pumpkin with salted egg yoke ... yum! A simple lunch. Claypot chicken rice Claypot curry fish head. It was a nice lunch. Then dinner was Southern Thai cuisine. Squeeze nutmeg juice, nutmeg is famous in Penang. They call it "Otak" - seafood curry like dish in a young coconut ... it's GOOD! Arbugine with minced pork in chili sauce. Seafood tomyam. Kerabu chicken feet ... yum one of my favourite. Oops! I have reached my 15 files limit.
And the eating continue ...... Thai green curry. On the whole it was a delicious dinner. And another dinner nearby. Deep fried pork leg, very good!!! Pomfret soup ... yum! Steam clams with garlic and ginger. Deep fried calamari rings. I guess the eating part of the trip is the best and eating is always the best time of the day for me Sorry for the bad photography.
You've made me SO hungry!!! All this looks just delicious. I am so bored with food. When I can, I will always choose ethnic food over American food, because it tastes so much better to me, and I really enjoy the different flavors and textures. All of this looks really, really good KK. Yum! Now I'm going to go downstairs and eat a very boring and bland breakfast, made that way because even more becuase of these photos!! Thanks a lot!
