It was time to whitewash the greenhouse a few days ago. Instead of just smearing the paint on, we made designs to keep out some of the sun. In years past we discovered that we had to remove some of the paint to let more light in, actually. This year we did it diffrently, taking a cue from our artistic neighbour-lady. We can’t really call it a greenhouse now, can we? Maybe a whitehouse then?
Well there's a great idea! I've been wondering what to put up on the short wall of my greenhouse to keep the late day sun out! I was going to order some more shade cloth, but I think this might work too! What kind of paint do you use?
Hiya Netty. I use a type of shading paint that is white in normal, sunny conditions but when it is rained upon, it becomes transparant…and when it dries, it becomes white again. It stays on about nine months. I do not know if it is available in Canada, but if not, perhaps there is something similar. It may be worth a couple of phone calls. Just describe what it does to the store boss. I have heard of shade cloths but never used them. Good luck. I hope that you can locate some. Our can lasts several years.
That greenh... sorry, whitehouse cheered me up! I hope it will cheer a lot of passers-by up too. Well done, creative people!
This is such a happy greenhouse! ( whitehouse ). I have never heard of the shade paint, what a clever idea. Like Netty I use shade cloth ( remay) but oh my what a hassel I have with wind and anchoring it. Much more like a sail at times. I hope Canada has such a thing. I'll ask friends in the USA if they can keep their eyes open for it as well. I was wondering how you managed the heat/sun in your tomato shack. Looks like you both had a lot of fun.
did know there was such a thing … I wonder how well it works on large home windows… I will look online for the paint. The designs on your GH are cute, gives it a bit of pizazz. I found the temperzon paint at Amazon.. only $14.00. I’m going to use it on. Couple of windows on the house. Thanks for the info.. Maybe get creative Sjoerd and paint palm leaves or somethin… will be fun..
Great that you found the paint. You must show your handiwork when you have done your windows. I am excited for you.
