Tipsy Pots

Here's a cool new way to plant, especially if you are running out of room. I used the pots I had on hand to see how it worked, but you really need bigger pots, maybe a 12 inch at the bottom to start with, then 2 ten inch, and 2 eight inch, or any combo you desire. They are also neat with old galvanized buckets and a watering can on top. The pole is a piece of rebar, slip the first pot over it through the drainage hole, fill with soil, then start adding pots and tilting from side to side. Fill each pot as you go and make sure to pound the rebar into the ground about a foot deep first. I saw these on EBay, and the starting bid for the pole alone/ with a basket attached to fit in the first pot and instructions was $15.99 plus 12.99 shipping.

Glendan, don't go to the lumber yard - too expensive!! Do you have a construction recycle place where you live? If so, call them. Or, call a concrete concractor - for the amount you need I'd bet you'd either get it much much cheaper or even for free (I work for a general contractor and its frightening what we throw away - we'll give the stuff to anyone that wants to come get it - saves us hauling charges). You can get all sorts of useful building materials just by making a few phone calls and and asking - the worst they'll do is tell you no.

My dad was in construction most of his life. He always hired people to come clean up construction sites. He gave a lot of stuff away if people wanted to come after it. I'd forgotten about it. dooley
