This past spring when I first put together my tall tipsy-pots, Frank asked that I post something when it filled out a bit, so here it is at last: Of course they'll be dying back with the fall, but I have high hopes for next year too. I'd like to find a birdbath to go with it. Also recently brought home an Eyeball plant (as we call it)... it's a "Peek-a-Boo" Spilanthe, just too fun: The entire plant is covered with eyeballs. We've brought him in as an honorary houseplant for now, the nights becoming more chill. It makes us laugh. o.o
Your tipsy pots are looking great and have really filled out since we last saw them. I really love your 'eye-ball' plant. :-D I'll keep my fingers crossed that everything survives the winter and comes back next year bigger and healthier than ever.

Your tipsy stack is fantastic! Ermm, that last picture is . . . . . . looking at me! Of course, it could be that I'm feeling the effects of the new diet that Dr. Eileen prescribed.

They're a tender plant, it went down to 50 at night and the poor thing was wilting, so I brought it in where it is now very happy in the kitchen. Spilanthe are from somewhere in South America and according to what I've read the leaves can be used in salads or the plant can be chewed for mild anesthetic qualities, hence it also carries the nickname "toothache plant." We just like the googly-eyes! :-D

For anyone interested in making a Tipsy Pot, Cajunbelle posted a tutorial form making them here.... http://www.gardenstew.com/about1648.html Skud, rebar is a piece of metal used in contruction, usually as a stabilizer in concrete foundations, roads, sidewalks, etc. I don't know about NZ but here in the states it is found at home improvement centers like Home Depot and Lowes. I guess you would have to call around to find a source there, possibly check out a construction site and ask where they get it...if you are lucky they just might have a piece they were going to throw away that they will give you.
