I hate to be too critical but that first one looks horrible, it is the epitome of indecisiveness! They should have gone all or none for either brick type. I like the second one much better.
From looking at alot of these homes for sale, I'm pretty sure the brick entry was put there by the builder... and later on the homeowner decided they wanted a flower bed. At least that's my impression. But I do agree... that first one is just terrible.
