I found this guy this morning on my Golden Masterpiece. Since I sprayed this past Tues, Im not worried about it doing damage. Its just so odd looking I was wondering if anyone knew what it was. Its getting ready to fly off in this pic. What you cant tell because the wings are open is that its body is a perfect square shape.
I've never seen that kind of beetle before, maybe they don't live here in Texas!! It is a pretty beetle tho. Maybe someone else will be able to tell you what he is!! It is neat how you capture him almost in flight!!
Woah he looks amazing Pinkie, very Egyptian. I wish we knew what it was. How big would you estimate it is? It looks quite big from the photo.
Yeah it was big. That was on a full size rose bush. I would say he was about an inch in length...tho I only saw him for a second, he could have been closer to an inch and a half. He was alot bigger than any beetle Ive had in my yard by far.
beetle I have identified (with lots of help) your beetle. It is a Delta Flower Scarab. The adults feed on pollen but may also chew on blooms. The name comes from the thoracic markings, thought to resemble the Greek letter Delta. I'm still working on your little wildflower. 8)
Wow excellent Bethie, wait until Denee reads you answer, she'll be thrilled. I knew it had some 'Egyptian' connection/association! Bethie you're an asset!
Thank you!! Ive never seen one eatting my roses so he must have been just passing through! Thanks a mill!!
