It's the first one we've spotted this year. It sure is pretty.

Such a pretty flutterby! I saw one flitting around here and just today I found a caterpillar on the dill in the greenhouse. beautiful!

I didn't know they liked dill but I'm really glad now that I scattered dill seed in all my flowerbeds. I do that every year just because I love the smell, and texture, of dill and like to run my hands on it while weeding. Maybe that's why they are in my yard now!

A really lovely butterfly and one we don't get here in Scotland. I hope it's just the first of many you'll see in your garden.

It is hard to distinguish the difference between the eastern like I have and the western . I have never heard of the western. I used to belong to a butterfly group, I will check and see if I can find the information on it. Beautiful swallowtail...I have had the female eastern tiger swallowtail but I haven't been able to catch the male yet.

Just did a little checking and now I found out north of us are the Canadian tiger swallowtail...I am still checking on the others. All look alike to me.

Male Eastern Tiger Swallowtails are yellow with black “tiger” stripes, and in our area can be confused with Canadian Tiger Swallowtails. I’ve been looking for Canadian Tiger Swallowtails – central Wisconsin is a place where the two species overlap – but I’ve never found one that I was sure was a Canadian.

I think I will refer to all of mine that I post as just Tiger Swallowtails...it is confusing...

Beautiful butterfly. I have also heard that they like the foliage of fennel.
Your foto is lovely and the colourful butterfly just stands out.

Sherry, I think I'll just call it Tiger swallowtails also. Makes it easier!
