What have you done today in the Garden?

Last job last night was watering the pots.
When I got to the hebe on the steps outside the French windows (photo from a couple of months back). It's the second green pot from the left.
As I sprayed water on it a large frog jumped out.




We've always had frogs in our garden from before and after we had the koi pool. I think one or two may live in the phlox on the rockery. The phlox is quite dense in places. I always leave a shallow bowl of water near it for them.

 

Lovely second blooming, Riley. Jealousy creeping in over here.

Oh, but then I saw that the foto was from a couple of months back. Never mind, the Wisteria is very attractive.

Folks here dab on various things but I am not totally convinced that they work much.
I do not find insect stings particularly painful, but I do swell at the site a bit.

 

Yesterday fed the rhododendron with sulphate of iron, the leaves were turning yellow around the edges. It was some old fertilizer that i have, they've been neglected through the years and i hope that i can bring them back to life.

 

There are the boogers that got me..

@Lillium_Lover so sorry about the hornet sting. Here it's yellow jackets. Evil, mean little devils.

It was too hot here to do a lot. I added extensions to the drip lines, for the last row of beans and the four o'clocks. That's about ten trips less with the watering can every day in this incredible heat.

I added cardboard mulch for the bush beans, so they don't dry out as fast and to keep weeds down.



These also got slug bait under the cardboard.
I will need to thin those bean plants and fertilize in a few days.

I made a quick tripod trellis for the Thunbergia, now that it's starting to bloom and making lots of vines. This was a bucket list plant for me this year, and I'm glad it's growing.


I watered sweetcorn and potatoes. Most of the rest are on drip lines. What a life saver.

 

Well, they arent really hurting anything, beside me "yet". I dont want to see that nest grow to enormous sizes though. My hubby is highly allergic, like send him to the hospital allergic. I think I may need to move them.

 

LL, these beasts have a bad name here and people have died from attacks in towns as well as out in the wilds on hiking trails and bike paths. They have a campaign each year to battle them.

Today I dug the last of the early potatoes. Next come the midseason types. The potato digger's work is never done.

I mowed the fig orchard. Lots of baby figs growing on the trees, and it look like the first ripe fig is almost ready. Yellow jackets are starting to fill the traps. Will they best me to the figs? I don't know.

I noticed while mowing there, some healthy but small common milkweed (Asclepias syriaca). I had planted it there, many years ago but I thought it died. I'm glad it's there. I will try to move them to the meditation garden when fall arrives. I find they don't mind so much being moved, when dormant.

I picked two cherry tomatoes (Sungold) and two salad tomatoes (Extreme dwarf). Such abundance LOL. I think there will be more on the way. Is it just me, or is Sungold all sweet and sour but not very tomatoey?

 

To hot to do much. Picked some blackberries this evening.
And checked on the grapes.
