popular What have you done today in the Garden?

Thank you so much @Melody Mc. . The bottom line for me is, it's the doing that gives the most reward. My garden is my sanctuary and "puttering meditation" As for being pleased, I really am. This year, tomatoes, beans, garlic, peppers, potatoes were "best ever " and peaches and squashes were pretty doggone good. A lot of the flowers gave a lot of joy. There have been lots of learnings, too. Even though I've been doing it long enough to have advised Noah how to grow his grapes.

This year, the only real disappointments were the onions, which I couldn't care for when it mattered. Everything has an off year sometimes - plums, figs, pears, chestnuts didn't do great. And apples, same reason, but there were some really nice ones. A lot of that was illness, that got me down for a few months, better now. I have to discipline myself to not be as ambitious, but it's hard to do that,

The big, pending, winter projects: Renew pathways, also make more pathways in mini-orchard, clean up last raised bed, make another container "bed" and fill it, pruning apple trees, and more of this-and-that .

I've really enjoyed reading your gardening in the wilderness. You persevere in a more challenging garden climate, and it's really admirable. I enjoy everyone's posts here.

Melody's take on freezing seeds is same as mine - they need to be dry, in air- tight container. Some people store their seeds in freezer.

@Melody Mc. that's great that you find my information about the currant cuttings useful. Thanks about the seeds, yes i love ordering things, still got some more seeds to come.
@Daniel W thanks as melody has said and you I think that the blueberry seeds were too wet.

 

Proof positive of a crazy guy garden nut. Out walking Rufus in town today. A homeowner, total stranger, is raking his leaves. I ask if he wants them hauled away. I wind up raking the rest of his yard.

What a haul

This was good progress, replenishing the border leaf mulch. Last year's mulch lasted until now, but was starting to thin out. No weeds in the entire area this year. Almost no watering, too. This is a super-easy area to maintain, if I can freshen the leaf mulch each year.



To finish the entire border, I'll need about four more truckloads. I have a few yards lined up to collect their leaves. Yes, I'm a garden fanatic

Eventually, those fig trees might self mulch. Their leaves do break down quickly, but the other eventually is that my own trees are becoming larger, so maybe I can use my own tree leaves someday.

Rufus stayed inside and kept the comforter warm for me. What a helpful dog! Truly man's best friend.

I was not able to finish collecting mine before the freeze this year, and when I ran the snow plough down the driveway yesterday this big chute of poplar leaves came up with the snow burm....I had a moment of sadness

Next year, that Clematis will grow like crazy!

 

Today was my volunteering day. Afterwards, I collected 1/3 of a truckload of tree leaves. Most of the trees haven't shed most of their leaves yet.

 

Yesterday started pulling up the ivy that's growing around the Holly trees on the ground and the brambles that's growing up them. Haven't been done for a few years so there's a lot to do. It had been raining earlier so not sure if i'll be able to do some more.

 

Daniel— I know mate, I prune them every year and it makes them thicker. I’m well chuffed.

 

The leaf mulcher at work cleared the driveway , front and back gardens sides too.
Lots of nice oak leaves to press too …
